When you are writing or composing an individual piece, you must choose who you are writing your piece towards. The people who you are choosing to write to are the audience to your work. Audiences require different types of pieces, like how a child would not want to read a scientific analysis based on the individual pieces of cells. The work is formulated towards an individual section of the population of people who may buy your book. Children will want to read a children’s book with many pictures, while an adult in college may want to read a story based on a romance between lovers.
