I like how chapter 9, in the Bedford Book of Genres, begins by explaining that in order to begin a work, you first need to write a “shitty” rough draft that will need to be revised later after you have written down all of the ideas that you have brainstormed. The chapter later describes how to revise your work based on your observations and peer reviews. In order to revise a work based on your observations, it is essential to develop the skill of being able to critique your own writing. It is also possible to review your work through the use of peer review, which provides the response of an audience to your work which will allow you to gear your writing to better fit the reader.
